Having it arrive a full week before its announced release date didn't hurt, by the way.
And I did nothing special except pre-order it.
It's glorious... the huge list of extras had me thinking "damn featurettes", with allthose mini-docs of only 2 minutes. But as soon as you hit the original Japanese docs the length increases: 20 minutes, 30 minutes, the "5 giants who made Ponyo" (none of them Miyazaki himself, by the way) lasts over 50 minutes and none of it is fat.
And YES! That is indeed a Japanese lossless HD 6.1 DTS track, which nearly brings tears to my eyes.
Optimum stunned me with their DVD for "Howl's Moving Castle" a few years back, as they had the single best version out worldwide (trumping the Japanese one in picture quality by a HUGE margin). Good to see the dedication to AV-quality is still there, and I'm looking forward to their handling of the Ghibli catalogue on HD...
Can we expect an HD-version of "Nausicaa" six months after the Japanese release? Hope and pray...
Audio is English PCM 5.1 and Japanese DTS-HD MA 6.1.
Region B Locked.
The same disc in the UK is used for the upcoming AUS version.
