I never realized this was a Japanese co-production. I always wondered how this film, good though it may be, slipped past Criterion's "No Dogs Or Chinese (But Actually, Dogs Are OK)" policy. Now it makes much more sense. I just hope nobody ever tells them that Wong Kar-wai isn't actually French.
