Hi,
I don't know the truth behind this, but cdjapan classified the akira kurosawa's box in region free!:

To be honest, I don't trust CD Japan's region code details. They also list both Ghost in the Shell 2 Innocence releases as region free even though both are region locked!
The Collection includes Rashomon, Not Yet (Madadayo), Ran and The Quiet Duel.
