Watched the disc in full this evening, and while it has some better parts, it's still a disappointment. Especially the parts that have cgi - and there's loads of those - have almost sub-dvd quality.

Played the English version out of curiosity and turns out they used a different transfer. Looks ten times better than the original version! Frustrating.

My disc arrived today - to my eyes it's definitely sourced from a sd-transfer - improvements are marginal at best. Too bad - really love the film. I had the Universe dvd, so at least I get better subtitles now, and can watch the Director's Cut without fiddling around with my remote during the movie.

@Wim C

While it is not the greatest of transfers and yes there is EE going on.

You can tell it's not an upscale and looks alot better than DVD release.

Judging from those screenshots - thanks! - it looks a lot like an upconverted transfer
Quite a lot of obvious edge enhancement as well. Will pick it up anyway but - too bad.

It is the director's cut. It's not a bad disc, Shaolin soccer has never looked any better. For anyone with a region free blu ray player I'd recommend they pick this up. It's quite cheap too.

www.avforums.com

Poster says it includes the 113 min cut (Cantonese w/ English sub) and 87 min US cut (English dubbed). No Extras, Poster didn't say if it was locked (but being Optimum I would assume RB locked). Hear PQ was so-so. Transfer is apparently so-so.

The chance this being the director's cut version is probably pretty small, is it?
