Oh boy, I hope these specs listed for the US Blu-ray Disc release of Hayao Miyazaki's Ponyo (coming March 2, 2010) on The Disney Store aren't final.
Primary Language: English and only lossy Dolby Digital for the original Japanese track? Hey Disney, Blu-ray is about high definition in picture AND sound! We're supposed to pay premium prices for your releases, so give us premium quality! Don't make Ponyo cry!

Looks like these were the final specs after all...
"Seriously, is there even much of a difference? I mean, I don't even have a surround system, much less an expensive sound system."
Many of us who did invest in a half decent sound system care about lossless audio.
"I bet Disney ran out of space on the 50gb and decided to put Japanese Dolby since most people in America would rather hear the English dubbed version."
Ponyo is a 90 minute movie. There should have been plenty of space for both English and Japanese DTS-MA tracks, along with good quality on the special features. There have been many blu-ray releases of much longer movies with multiple lossless tracks (one of those being PCM uncompressed to top it off). Spider Man 3 (139 min.) and Fifth Element (126 min) come to mind. The video quality on these releases was also excellent.
I have seen this with both soundtracks, and I don't have anything against people who prefer the dub, for whatever reason.
Still, that Disney chose not to include lossless audio for the original soundtrack shows a lack of respect for the film they are releasing, and for its fans who care about the original (and very good) performances.

I bet Disney ran out of space on the 50gb and decided to put Japanese Dolby since most people in America would rather hear the English dubbed version. Though you can always get the Japanese version that has lossless audio, though I'm sure it'll cost quite a bit more. I grew up watching anime in English dubbed so I guess I'm use to it :p plus I can enjoy the artwork more instead of constantly reading the subtitles... Overheard movie had nothing but non-stop subtitles, that was painful to watch.
Glad I got the Japanese release. The lossless audio on that is brilliant. And if I want to see the crappy dub (and believe me it is crappy - especially the terrible english version of the theme song) well it has that too (and thanks to AnyDVD it doesn't have those pesky Japanese subtitles).
