While I could just update the yesterday's article regarding this topic, I thought that this piece of news just deserves its own little entry. During an HDTV broadcast of Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind it was announced that Hayao Miyazaki's 1984 masterpiece will be released on Blu-ray Disc in Japan this summer!
To give you a small hint of what at least to expect from those releases, check out these HD screenshots from the Joe Hisaishi in Budokan – Miyazaki Anime to Tomo ni Ayunda 25 Nenkan Blu-ray Disc. But I sure hope Disney Home Entertainment will use better source material for their upcoming releases.

Hopefully it receives a new telecine transfer from the original negative in HD, the music thing with the clips is horrendously upscaled and looks not so good.
The best dvd release is the japan region 2 and was not that big of an improvement over the remastered laserdisc in the boxset, except it was anamorphic. But the edge enhancement and dirt led one viewer to think it was the same as the HIVISION D1 tape master or was it d2 can't remember.
Following that link, all the titles show varying degrees of room for improvement, but KIKI'S DELIVERY SERVICE is looking like straight up garbage. Horrendous.
