This morning/last night, K2DVD added some new Korean Blu-ray Disc releases to their site. According to these listings, CJ Entertainment will bring us The King and the Clown, Green Fish and Arahan while a still unnamed label will release Chan-wook Park's Oldboy and Untold Scandal. There are no release dates mentioned, but all discs are supposed to come with English subtitles.

I would have thought JSA, A Bittersweet Life, The Chaser, Friend, Public Enemy, Shiri, Silmido, A Dirty Carnival etc would have been the first on the list for blu-ray release. Ok, maybe ABL wasn't a massive Korean domestic success, but CJ Entertainment are thinking internationally anyway with their English-friendly releases, so with that in mind, I would have thought it would have been one of the obvious initial releases.
CJ Entertainment have always been excellent with their releases (DVD & Blu-ray), 99% of them have great packaging artwork, extras and English subtitles - so for a film like OldBoy to maybe not get a blu-ray release from these guys, is a shame for the consumer market.
How can these studios forget one of their biggest and best movies, JSA?
Great news that Korea is releasing more Blu-ray movies! I want 200 Pounds (not the Taiwanese version), The Chaser, Hot for Teacher, Open City, etc...
@djesteban
You're right, my Korean DVD release of OldBoy was released by Starmax.
@mowaw
Save The Green Planet, Bittersweet Life, My Sassy Girl and The Classic on BD, please!
I'd love a Blu-ray of Save the Green Planet! and Barking Dogs Never Bite.
Damn it, it's probably not CJ entertainment that will release Oldboy, because they don't have the distribution rights on this one...
See this list
It is a damn shame because they have the rights for the two other vengeance movies. I wonder who's going to release it and if they're going to make a good job... I almost want to hold off on Tartan's box until I know who's going to release this.
Hopefully we still don't know because CJ is trying to buy the rights for this one too!! That would be fantastic!!
"Sad Movie" would be nice
Just looking at some of my Korean DVD's and I really hope they do a blu-ray release of Daisy. Would also love to see Open City and Bittersweet Life hit Blu-ray.
What other great Korean films would you guys like to see on blu-ray?
I'll take the King and the Clown please
Would be nice to have a Korean release of Oldboy, but already have the UK Tartan and a friend is getting me the Best Buy Vengeance Trilogy Tin set and posting it to the good old land of oz. 3 copies might be pushing it. Then again, I am a little crazy when it comes to my blu-ray's......
