Both films will be released on DVD and Blu-ray Disc in 2011 while Summer Wars will also get a limited US theatrical release in 2010.

@previous commentor: Try to understand the market better. Yes, fansubs are quickly done, but there's an important factor that separates them from official release: fansubbers don't need to wait for anyone's permission through licensing contracts to work on their releases. So long as there is a video source, even if it's nothing more than a camrip, fansubbers can go to town. Official companies, meanwhile, have to deal with several issues.

First of all, they have to license the anime, which often happens during (pre)production these days, but they also have to wait for the Japanese to release their DVDs/BDs, as the Japanese companies are very afraid of reverse importation, otherwise we end up with BD releases like Kurokami, which are dub only. There is also the fact that Japanese companies will often sit on a property, rather than licensing it right off, to see if they'll get more money out of it. They're known to expect exorbitant licensing fees on popular franchises and I can bet that this is no exception, given its popularity outside of Japan.

All in all, please don't use fansubs as an excuse. Legal releases have to jump through many hoops, whereas fansubs can just avoid those hoops altogether.

Wait... they've only just now ACQUIRED Eva 2? No wonder it takes them ages to release stuff.. I mean, such a high profile film should've been acquired at production stage. For sure, the fans have already seen the fansub which was released days before the Japan BD date, and even that was before the US release of Eva 1! This is not how you make money...
